Founded by Phil Avery, this visionary project aims to transform opportunities for young entrepreneurs in English-speaking African countries and for African entrepreneurs based in the UK who aspire to return home and build sustainable business enterprises.

Paul Lungu

The story of AfricAspire™ is deeply personal and profoundly motivated by the memory of Paul Lungu, a bright and highly capable young Zambian who tragically lost his life to the challenges of poverty, depression, and a lack of support. Paul’s passing left an indelible mark on Phil, who reflected on the countless young people in similar circumstances—brimming with potential yet hindered by a lack of resources and opportunities. AfricAspire™ is a tribute to Paul, embodying a commitment to ensure that others like him are empowered to thrive and succeed.

Since 2003, Phil and his business, Future Point 4 Business have built strong connections across Africa. From multiple visits to Zambia and brief ventures into Zimbabwe and Botswana to working with clients in Uganda, Nigeria, and Angola, Phil’s experience has cultivated a profound understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing African entrepreneurs.

In 2018, during his last trip to Zambia, Phil shared his expertise in branding and marketing through impactful radio presentations and training events in Ndola and Lusaka. These moments, along with years of collaboration, underscored the importance of targeted support, practical knowledge, and accessible resources for young business leaders across Africa.

AfricAspire™ bridges this knowledge with action. By empowering small businesses in Africa and helping African entrepreneurs in the UK bring their aspirations to life back home, the initiative addresses critical challenges such as business training, branding, financial literacy and access to capital. AfricAspire™ is designed not just to teach but to inspire, providing a foundation of mentorship, accountability, and practical tools. From business planning and market research to operational strategies and brand collateral, every aspect of the programme is crafted to ensure long-term success.
